I finished my 5 week stint in the US by going on vacation from my vacation in Key West, Florida. I don’t think I could have picked a better place to end that already fantastic trip! The only thing I could have used less of was the humid heat, which was not quite to my taste, but the rest I couldn’t get enough of: free roaming chickens in the streets, lots of good restaurants, gorgeous streets that you can stroll with a large drink in your hand – yup, more of that please.
I hadn’t really formed any expectations on what Key West would look like before I went there, so it was a wonderful surprise to see all these beautiful old-fashioned houses.
Even the garbage bins are cute!
These trees with the red flowers were everywhere in Key West.

My hotel was about a 15 minute walk from Duval Street which wasn’t too bad.
And once you’re on the upper part of Duval St. it’s not far up to Mallory Square, which is a very different place by day than it is by night.
And of course, the chickens..! I think chickens are super cute, and I just loved seeing them running around in the streets looking well fed and happy.
Moving on from Mallory Square, I saw this lovely couple at the Art & Historical Society building:
I thought they were so cute!
Of course you can’t say Key West without also saying Ernest Hemingway, so of course I had to check out one of his old haunts, Captain Tony’s Saloon.
And then I started walking towards the Key West Cemetery. More beautiful streets on the way:
And finally, the cemetery. Unfortunately it was so hot (and not very shady) that I didn’t spend very long there.
Finishing off my little walk-about in Key West I went all the way down south to the (not real) Southernmost Point of the United States.
The line to get a selfie with that thing is ridiculous!
But the beach nearby makes for nice pictures too..
That concludes my little walk-about of Key West. I stayed there for just 3 days but would have loved a little more time. I visited Hemingway’s old house and a couple of really nice restaurants that I really want to share in the future, so there will be more from Key West on this blog.!
