As the year 2016 is coming to a close, I’ll take the chance to look back and see where I’ve been going this past year. 2016 was the year that I decided I wanted to travel more. I actually wrote that on my new year’s resolutions: ‘travel more’. And that I did! I actually managed to go to 10 different countries and I feel like I’ve experienced a TON!

The real Edoras in New Zealand.

I started the year in New Zealand, celebrating New Year’s Eve in Nelson on the South Island. Before I went back home again I had also been past Fiji and Australia, a week in each place.

This 3 and a half month trip was the one that made me realise how much I love to travel. I learned so much, about what I am capable of: sleeping in hostels, hiking for 2 days, living in a car for 3 months. New Zealand has gone straight to the top of my favourite countries and I have made a promise to myself that I will return in the not too distant future to pick up where I left off, so to speak.

Prague town square.

Stockholm old town.

At the height of summer I went to Prague for a weekend, and a month or so later I went to Stockholm just for the day.

At the beach on Anholt.

I’ve also been playing the tourist in my own country of Denmark a couple of times, the most memorable probably being when I went to the island of Anholt, which was unexpectedly gorgeous.

Come autumn, I went to Italy for two weeks, traveling from Florence all the way down past Rome to the Amalfi Coast and back up. Fantastic trip!

In November I went to California just in time for the presidential election – that was an accident, by the way. I still got to see Los Angeles, Highway 1 and San Francisco. The world keeps turning, even with that outcome.

I went to Dublin for a few days in the very end of November which I absolutely loved! I love pubs though, so that should be a given.

Finally, I went to Lübeck in Germany to see my very first German Christmas market. I loved it, and decided it’s not the last time I drive down south in December.

So, what’s in the pipeline for next year?

Well, in January I’ll be going to Montgenevre in France for a week with my friend to ski.. Or just tourist around, depending on what I feel like. One way or another, I’m looking very much forward to it!

Then, in May, I will be going to the United States again. This time for almost 6 weeks. I’ve planned a solo road trip – first time I’ll be on my own for that long – but I think I’ll pull through. The loose itinerary looks like this:

New York for a week, where I’ll be staying with friends who live (almost) in Manhattan (pretty awesome, huh?). Then I’m going to get my rental car, and drive down to Washington D.C. and from there through the Shenandoah and Great Smoky Mountains National Parks via the Skyline Drive and the Blue Ridge Parkway. I’ve set aside 5 days to drive from Washington D.C. to Nashville, hopefully that’ll be enough. From Nashville to Memphis and then down to New Orleans – I don’t know yet how much time I’ll spend in Mississippi on the way. After a couple of days exploring New Orleans I want to traverse the Deep South to get to first Charleston and then Savannah on the East Coast. I’ve heard a lot of good things about those two cities. Then, Florida. First Orlando where I want to visit The Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Orlando, and from there all the way down to Miami. I want to see the Everglades and I’m strongly considering driving all the way down to Key West while I’m there. I’ve got so much research to do! But, the plane tickets are bought and the excitement is setting in.

Also, I really reeaally want to go to Paris some time next year.
